The Art of Insight
Frameworks and methodologies get marketed as guaranteed recipes for good strategy — they aren't.
Where strategic value actually comes from
Anyone can follow a recipe and get a predictable result — that's what a process is for. But strategic planning for a high-stakes bioprocessing organization isn't baking a cake. Having the ingredients — market data, customer interviews, competitive analysis — doesn't guarantee a compelling result. The real differentiator is the intellectual work of synthesis: finding the hidden threads that tie disconnected data, siloed teams, and conflicting leadership goals into a single coherent strategy. Most consultancies can execute the data-gathering phase competently. Few go further into the "why" behind the "what" — which is exactly where strategic value actually starts. This paper makes the distinction explicit: process provides structure, insight provides value, and conflating the two is how strategy documents end up shelved instead of executed.
