Think Tank
Rigorous thinking. Relentless inquiry.
We think beyond the question being asked. Research is not an exercise in applying a framework or validating an existing point of view. It is a process of finding what matters — and understanding why.

Not by Design. By Discipline
Traditional think tanks rely on independent research, are interdisciplinary by design, interrogate the premise, and publish their findings.
Those are not disciplines we adopted to become a think tank. They are simply how we work. Over time, we recognized that the best description for what we had built was already there: a think tank.
We are the think tank for life science companies.
Independent research
We follow the evidence wherever it leads, without a predetermined conclusion or point of view to defend.
Interdisciplinary by design
We bring together perspectives that rarely sit in the same room — because the answer is often found at the intersection.
Interrogate the premise
We question the question before trying to answer it. The most consequential insight is often the one that changes what the problem actually is.
Publish our findings
We turn what we learn into knowledge that can travel beyond a single engagement — because good thinking should have a life beyond the project that produced it.
Why data alone does not get you there
Research is what we do.
Not research as a step in a methodology, or data collected to populate a framework. The work of finding what is true, determining what matters, and understanding what it means.
Every engagement starts with raw material that has not yet become an answer: customer interviews that contradict stated preferences. A regulatory footnote three steps removed from the supply-chain problem it will eventually create. A market signal that does not fit the prevailing narrative. A data point that looks insignificant until it is connected to three others.
Data does not explain itself. Someone has to determine which signals matter, which can be dismissed, and which change the way the question should be understood.
That judgment comes from experience. From seeing patterns across markets, companies, customers, technologies, and situations — and knowing when something does not fit.
Different questions demand different ways of thinking. These disciplines shape how we interrogate information, challenge assumptions, change perspective, and pursue an answer when the path is not yet clear.
The Art of Insight
Understanding does not arrive all at once. As evidence is interrogated, signals strengthen, noise falls away, and relationships begin to emerge. What appeared disconnected starts to cohere into a strategic picture clear enough to act upon.
Refracting Data Into Insight
We turn complexity into something useful. Data rarely arrives with a single meaning. We change the angle of inquiry — connecting customer evidence, scientific understanding, market signals, and experience — until relationships and implications that were not initially visible begin to emerge.
Forward-Tracing Risk Analysis
We look past the immediate consequence. Every decision creates a chain of consequences, some visible and some several steps downstream. We trace that chain forward to expose where a decision leads before those implications become problems.
Forensic Analysis
We investigate before we create. We take the underlying material apart far enough to understand what is actually there — examining evidence, assumptions, contradictions, gaps, and patterns before deciding what should come next.
What the research produces
The work does not end when the engagement ends.
Good research should leave something behind: a sharper understanding of the market, a new way of seeing the problem, a method that can be applied again, or a finding worth putting into the hands of other leaders. That is why we publish the work.
Every asset below began as raw material from a real engagement — questions, interviews, data, observations, analysis — and emerged as something that could stand on its own. Some become practical guides. Some become methods. Some become insights. Some become case studies. Together, they form a body of knowledge built from the work itself.
Leadership Guides
The decisions that matter rarely come with clean answers. We distill what the research reveals into practical thinking for leaders facing consequential choices.
Insights
Research often reveals something larger than the question that started it. We capture those observations and follow them where they lead — across markets, companies, technologies, and the forces shaping life science.
Method Series
Some questions demand a different way of thinking. We make the approaches we use explicit — not as proprietary frameworks, but as disciplined ways to interrogate complex problems.
Case Studies
The clearest way to understand how we work is to see the work itself: the question we were asked, what the research revealed, how the premise changed, and what happened next.

A bioprocessing supplier faced a build-direct-or-license decision.
The initial question was whether to launch a product. The research revealed a different opportunity: the real decision was whether to build a new business.
That finding reframed the engagement — from product launch to business-unit creation — and changed what the client needed to decide.
We do not research to arrive at a predetermined answer. We research to find the answer that is actually there.
Sometimes that means validating the opportunity. Sometimes it means changing the question. Sometimes it means walking away.
The value is not in having more information. It’s in knowing what the information means and more importantly – what to do with it.
The best work starts with a question.
We follow the evidence wherever it leads.
