Integration Management
Creating playbooks for on-going acquisition & integration needs
HOW WE HELP CLIENTS
Company Overview
The Company was a global manufacturer of airplane engines, locomotives, wind turbines and healthcare equipment and technology.
The Business Challenge
As demand for Internet of Things (IoT) grew, the Company responded by developing a native software platform for use in industrial applications. To grow faster than what it could do leveraging its own product pipeline, the Company sought to aggressively grow via acquisition.
The challenge posed by the Company’s aggressive acquisition strategy was ensuring that the back-end integration processes could support the front-end deal volume while delivering on acquisition deal drivers.
The Company brought in an integration leader that oversaw each of the functional integrations. However, the process for integrating each function remained undefined.

Our Solution
The path to defining an integration process involved many factors – critical to the success of the project included managing stakeholder expectations, of which the Company had many (the Company had a functional marketing CMO, marketing vice presidents, several marketing directors, a business leader and an integration leader; the acquired company had a CMO, several marketing vice presidents and its own integration leader). Stakeholder concerns included understanding changes to roles, structures, responsibilities, processes, product ownership and entity structure.
Understandably, the environment was emotionally charged. Nonetheless, the team persevered and at the conclusion of the project, we delivered a robust marketing integration process that incorporated the Company’s highly matrixed structure combined with its intended speed of acquisitions.
The final deliverable included a pre-close integration checklist, Day 1 Close activities, imminent post-close efforts and long-lead integration activities.
The Resulting Impact
The team developed a standardized approach to integration management that was scalable across large and small acquisitions and which provided clarity on roles & responsibilities across the organization.
