About Dave
Dave Watrous is a senior executive and advisor with over two decades of experience helping life sciences organizations accelerate growth, optimize operations, and scale globally. He brings a unique blend of commercial leadership, operational expertise, and digital transformation know-how to his work with innovators, vendors, and investors—making him one of the few executives who can bridge the worlds of SaaS, bioprocessing, and biotech innovation.
Dave has led revenue transformation initiatives for global organizations and PE-backed growth companies, including Danaher (Cytiva, IDBS), Covance, Cell Culture Company, and Cenevo (formerly Titian Software/Labguru). His leadership spans enterprise SaaS, contract development and manufacturing for bioprocessing, and advanced laboratory automation—giving him a 360-degree view of how technology, operations, and commercial strategy intersect in life sciences. This breadth of experience allows him to work with clients on complex challenges that require both technical depth and commercial acumen.
Known for building scalable go-to-market systems and strengthening sponsor-vendor partnerships, Dave has guided organizations through M&A integrations, business model transformations, and digital maturity journeys. His work often focuses on helping companies navigate the intersection of traditional life sciences operations and modern digital capabilities—including data integration frameworks (ISA-88, ISA-95, FAIR, ALCOA+), AI readiness assessments, and operational excellence using LEAN, DBS, and continuous improvement methodologies. He understands how to translate technical complexity into commercial value—whether that means helping a SaaS company refine its pricing model, supporting a CDMO in building digital infrastructure, or advising a PE firm on the commercial potential of a laboratory automation acquisition.
At MKA Insights, Dave partners with clients to develop commercial strategies, drive operational excellence, conduct commercial due diligence for investors, and enable digital integration and AI readiness in regulated environments. His consulting work reflects his belief that successful growth in life sciences requires more than just great science—it requires disciplined commercial execution, scalable operations, and the ability to leverage technology to create competitive advantage. He brings this perspective to every engagement, helping clients think strategically about how to position their offerings, scale their go-to-market efforts, and build sustainable revenue engines.
Dave has been active in industry forums including BIO, BioPhorum, and SLAS, and has served on the boards of BioForward Wisconsin and the Laboratory Robotics Interest Group (LRIG). His involvement in these organizations reflects his commitment to advancing the life sciences industry and staying connected to emerging trends, technologies, and market dynamics. He is recognized for his ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies—whether he’s helping a software company articulate its value proposition to biopharma customers or advising a bioprocessing company on how to build channel partnerships that scale.
Dave’s background in cancer biology and biochemistry gives him a unique foundation for his commercial work—he understands the science behind the products and services his clients offer, which allows him to have more meaningful conversations with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders. This scientific grounding, combined with his executive education from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, positions him as someone who can operate at the intersection of science, technology, and business—delivering measurable results in competitive, regulated environments.
